CSO Workshop on UPR III

CSO workshop on UPR III was held on 18th September 2017, at Montfort Social Institute. Universal Periodic Review, which reviews the human rights status in country, is United Nation’s initiative. Working Group on Human Rights (WGHR) , prepared a report to supplement the UPR report submitted by Government of India.
The workshop was started by Bro. Varghese Theckanath, Director of MSI, taking a session on context of UPR. Mrs. Sajaya, founder of ‘Caring Citizens Collective’, talked on importance of UPR in the context of increase in intolerance in Telangana State. Senior journalist Ch. Narendra explained the functioning of WGHR in making UPR process familiar in India and also active participation of CSOs. Stakeholders’ Report titled “Human Rights in India” is launched.
Fr.Thomas Pallithanam, Salesian Representative at United Nations and National Steering Committee Member for Wada Na Todo Abhiyan, gave the glimpse human rights scenario around the world while sharing certain instances of human rights violations.
In continuation session, participating CSOs promised to spread awareness on UPR in their area of field work and an action plan was drafted.
